Our fly fishing operation and Lodge is headquartered in Lago Frio, Chilean Patagonia, near the town of Coyhaique which is a jumping-off point to all the best fishing the region has to offer.
The incredible variety of world class fishing close to ChileTrout gives you the opportunity to craft your own adventure. Depending on your preferences, the conditions, and which body of water is fishing best, we will work with you on your ideal itinerary. We have many types of boats setups at our disposal to properly fish everything from the area’s larger lakes, to our meandering rivers – these include drift boats, whitewater rafts with fishing frames, motorized pontoon rafts and rowable zodiac style motorized boats.
We may need some assistance from you as we carry, portage or put in rafts in remote areas, sometimes launching rafts where there is no boat ramp – a true Patagonia experience. We also have great opportunities for walks and wade fishing if preferences and conditions align. You must be able to walk river banks, and through relatively fast water over rocks that are at times rough and slippery. Wading boots with good ankle support and without studded soles are required, felt soles are preferred not only for specific walk and wade days but also days where we will fish from the boat and occasionally get out to wade fish as well. An adventurous attitude and the right gear will help make for a fantastic trip.
We cannot wait to show you some of the most varied, pristine, productive and scenic trout fishing in the world!
Karina, a true daughter of the outdoors, defied her upbringing in Santiago and embraced a life closely intertwined with nature. Her introduction to fly fishing, courtesy of Francisco, marked a turning point. Casting her first flies on the streams of the Andes ignited a passion that eventually led her to Patagonia. Alongside Francisco, she established ChileTrout. While Pancho navigates the waters, Karina offers land-bound enchantment. From birdwatching to horseback riding, hiking, and sightseeing, she’s the curator of experiences beyond fishing. For lodge guests, she ensures seamless operations and takes charge of bookings and marketing during the off-season.
Francisco, fondly known as Pancho, embarked on his fishing journey early, guided by his grandfather’s wisdom. His fervor for fly fishing led him to Montana’s Sweetwater Guide School in 2003, making him Chile’s first certified fly fishing guide. His explorations have spanned the United States, Canada, and beyond, yet the allure of Patagonia remained irresistible. Few comprehend Patagonia as he does. As ChileTrout’s head guide, Pancho immerses anglers in unmatched experiences both on and off the water. His humor and charisma endear him to all he encounters. During the off-season, Pancho traverses new landscapes, uncovering new waters to surprise and delight his clients year after year.
Our Lodge provides world-class comfort and hospitality while also celebrating our unique location at the southern end of the Americas.
